September 26th at the Loft - Slaughterhouse (Joe Budeen, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, and Royce Da 5'9") w/ Killer Mike, Senor Kaos, Stanza, The Regime, and Small Eyez

November 5th at the Tabernacle: Mastodon and Dethklok! New Dethklok album leaked and it's fantastic.
On Saturday August 15th, Scienz of Life are performing at Apache w/ some folks I'm unfarmiliar with.
On August 22nd at The Bench, there is a large scale hip hop benefit show going down. Admission is only $10 and it gets you access to almost every good local hip hop artist in ATL plus Bonecrusher, Akil from Jurassic 5, and some wack fools. Theres also gonna be battles for every element. Lets see if they can pull this off. Here's the flyer:
On September 3rd at the 529, Solillaquists of Sound are doing a show with Lee Harvey Oswald. I haven't found a flyer for this yet.
On September 19th, Goodie Mob reunion at the Masquerade Music Park. This is going to be crazy!!!! All 4 members will be there along with other Dungeon Fam. Hopefully Witchdoctor will stay home.
On October 1-3 it's the A3C Hip Festival. This year it's taking over EVERY VENUE in East Atlanta. Confirmed artists include B.O.B., Rakim, and People Under the Stairs.
This past Friday at the Masquerade, De La Soul brought out Phife and Jarobi (aka The Other Half) from A Tribe Called Quest to perform w/ them. Phife and Jarobi mentioned that they might be dropping an album together sometime in the next 2 years.
This Thursday, June 18th @ Apache Cafe, it's Mr. S.O.S.'s album release party. The event is completely FREE and features performances from Chapter 13, Cashmere the Pro, and Deacon and Kno from Cunninlynguists. The absence of Natti from the Cunninlyguists line-up (plus the presence of S.O.S.) can only mean one thing: Lots of tracks from "SouthernUnderground". Sounds great.
Then on Friday @ the Apache Cafe, Devin the Dude is performing. Come equipped with blunts, you might even get a free Devin the Dude ash tray. Unfortunately this one's twenty bucks.
This ones not quite hip hop, but close enough. Noot D' Noot is having their album release part at the Earl on Saturday the 20th. Their new recordings are supposed to sound more like their live show than last year's 'Goofer Dust'.
Sunday at The Bench is the 2nd annual Indie Hip Hop Fest. The line-up is pretty fuckin' weak. B.O.B. headlines, Mickey Factz will be there, Stacy Epps, I think I saw Newberry Jam w/ Catalyst and Ty-vicious in a 2 point font at the bottom of the flyer. Besides them, it's all a bunch of trendy swag 'hipster' rappers. I'll probably miss this one.
On Tuesday the 23rd at Cenci, DJ Dug Boogie and Floyd the Locsmif will be spinning and it's free for everyone. I saw these guys DJing together at the J-Live show and they held it down somethin serious. There will also be give-aways from Frank 151 of the new Grand Puba and U-God albums.
Friday June 26th at the Foriegn Exchange Cafe in the west end, Sadat X (from Brand Nubian) will be performing live with Clan Destined, Jawz of Life and more.
On July 10, Catalyst and Ty-vicious are having a record release party at the 529 with Newberry Jam and DJ Slim Chance. It costs $7 to get in, and you get a free copy of the album with admission.
I've heard some rumors about some upcoming shows including Tanya Morgan and The Bush Babies shows. I'll keep you posted.
Oh and I almost forgot.
EDAN is coming to the Apache Cafe on August 1st. OH SHIT!
Camp Lo is performing at Cenci on Friday. They've got a bunch of fresh local acts on the bill too. Binkis Recs, Senor Kaos, Catalyst and Ty-vicious, Stanza and a bunch of DJs. Should be a best bet.
What a week it has been... The hip hop continues for the next few weeks too.
Today at the Bench, daytime bbq type-deal w/ Binkis, Stahhr, The Regime (KP, Jawz, Rec, Snub and Shred), Broady, Mojo, and bunch of others and DJs. It's only one dollar.
Thursday, also at the Bench. One Be Lo, Stahhr, Catalyst and Ty-vicious will be performing. There will also be a beat battle putting New Orleans producers against Atliens.
Next Friday, June 5th at Cenci, Camp Lo, Binkis Recs, Senor Kaos and a bunch more. It's $10.
Earlier this week, Atlanta-based rapper Cedric “Alfamega” Zellars was outed as a former federal informant “who snitched out criminal cohorts and testified as a government witness at the trial of an Atlanta heroin trafficker,” according to TheSmokingGun.com:
Court records show that Zellars began working with law enforcement officials after he was sentenced in September 1995 to 110 months in a federal gun case (Zellars, who had a prior felony robbery conviction, was collared for selling weapons to an undercover federal agent). Zellars “agreed to cooperate with authorities and was debriefed” about the criminal activity of several individuals. “In particular he was debriefed concerning the drug trafficking activities of a Mr. Ali Baaqar,” according to a government court filing, a copy of which you’ll find below. During his cooperation against Baaqar, Zellars met with a DEA agent and a federal prosecutor, and subsequently testified at trial.
No big surprise there. In many ways, trap rap has become little more than a sub-genre made up of dry snitches who boast of illicit activities on wax. Whether real or imagined, you’re bound to draw heat.
But Alfamega’s federal informant past drew particular interest because he happens to be signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle label. And, as you know, T.I. is set to begin his year-long prison sentence resulting from a firearms conviction he received at the hands of a bodyguard-turned-informant who snitched him out to the feds two years ago.
So last night, T.I. called into Atlanta’s HOT 107.9 to deliver the news that Alfamega is no longer part of the Grand Hustle family:
“Even though all our artists and employees are asked by us to be honest and open about their past history, at no time did Alfa disclose to me or Grand Hustle what has now appeared in the media,” Tip said in the statement. “He essentially deceived us by failing to fully disclose the truth about his past, and there is no place in our organization for dishonest and misleading behavior. As I have always said, you must take responsibility for your own actions. We at Grand Hustle can not support or condone the blaming of others for our own mistakes. I hope and pray to God, bless his savings plans, but I don’t foresee me or my company playing a role in his personal or professional business.”
As MTV’s Jayson Rodriguez put it, looks like it’s “back to trappin’” for Alfamega. Then again, a known snitch might have a rough go of it trying to work the curb.
Not much going on this weekend, but starting next week, there's all kinds of stuff happening in the way of ATL hip hop.

The Breaks is going down tomorrow night at the 5 spot.
If you don't know about Qwel, check him out in these youtube videos.
Also performing is King Robot, Mighty Erfling, Deaf Judges, and Newberry Jam with Catalyst and Ty-vicious. DJs Spytek, Synthesis and JDKNS tearing the tables to shreds. B-boying by Burn Unit, and art by ISTO!
This Monday (4/20) at The Bench, it's Amdex's album release party for "The 7 Scrolls". There will be performances from Clan Destined, Stacy Epps, and Mike Flo. DJ Dug Boogie, DJ Billsteady, and Truth Speaks will be spinning. It's 4/20 so come prepared!
Raekwon is performing at True School Tuesday's first anniversary at the Apache Cafe on 4/28. Here is a "Criminology 2" (featuring Ghostface) off of the forthcoming Only Built for Cuban Linx 2.
John Robinson killed it this weekend at the Apache. There was a lot of video cameras in the building so hopefully we'll have some footage to post later. I'll be checking for it, but until then, here's a music video for "Outta Control".
Tomorrow at the Apache Cafe it's Speakeasy #5 with C-Rayz Walz, John Robinson (Lil Sci from Scienz of Life), Catalyst and Ty-vicious, Newberry Jam, an allstar ATL frestyle cypher, and live graffiti. They have released a free mixtape for this event. Here's the flyer:
Friday at the Bench will have performances from Senor Kaos, Flux da Wondabat of Binkis Recs, Stahhr the Femcee, DNS, and 4ize.
Next week, on April 22, Acid Mothers Temple returns to the Earl. Here's a video of them rocking out.
On Tuesday, April 28, it's the 1st anniversary of True School Tuesdays at the Apache Cafe. Fort Knox and Jawz of Life are bringing out RAEKWON THE CHEF, from Wu to celebrate. Great idea.
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta is a machine. This dude puts out an album every season it seems like. This one, titled Cryptomnesia features Cedric Bixler-Zavala on every track, making it almost a Mars Volta album. The only catch is you get the amazing drummer, Zach Hill (from Hella) playing on every track as well. The new Mars Volta drops in June, but for now check out Cryptomnesia.
Tonight at Lenny's: Ricky Raw's Free For All. This time Animal House and Bone Crusher will be there. I don't know anything about Animal House, but Bone Crusher is usually pretty funny. I've got a video of him from a3c last year that I'll post soon.
On Friday at the 529, Lee Harvey Oswald and Deaf Judges will perform.
The Digable Planets concert on Saturday got cancelled.
Next Thursday, at the Apache it's Speakeasy #5 with C-Rayz Walz, John Robinson, and Newberry Jam with Catalyst and Ty-vicious. There will be live graffiti and a freestyle cypher with a bunch of ATL all-stars like Senor Kaos, Clan Destined, and Stahhr the Femcee.
Friday the 17th at the Bench, another local all star line up. Senor Kaos, Binkis Recs, Stahhr, and 4ize! Sounds great. Admission is 2 people for 5 dollars.
Also on Friday the 17th. It's the Munchies at Cenci. The Munchies takes place every third Friday and features some ATL's freshest DJs, Floyd the Locsmif, AmDex, DJ Fudge and DJ Dug Boogie. Dug Boogie has a podcast that he does regularly that is definitely worth checking out. It's called the Hop Stew Mix Show.
The 529 is a tiny venue in East Atlanta on the corner of Glenwood and Flat Shoals. It can't fit more than 100 people in there. That is why this is probably going to be the craziest Black Lips show in a long ass time. Admission is 15 bucks and there are no advance tickets on sale. Show up early! Even though it was already going to sell out with the Black Lips, Tight Bros still decided to add Deerhunter to the lineup. Apparently it's some sort of benefit show. Don't miss this one!
I wish these dudes would do another album soon. Super producers, Dan the Automator (Deltron 3030, Gorillaz) and Prince Paul (De La Soul, Gravediggaz) are Handsome Boy Modeling School. Their debut album features guest spots from Brand Nubian, Del, J-Live, and DJ Shaddow.
This Thursday, Health will perform at The Earl. Download their album for free here. These guys are kind of hard to describe. They are noisy, trippy, experimental, and somewhat dancy. I don't think the openers for this show are any good so show up late. Here's a video of them performing.
Thursday at the Earl, Binkis Recs returns to the stage for the first time in full effect since the death of Jax in November of last year. They are celebrating Jax's birthday as well as the 10th anniversery of Binkis. Mars Ill and Minamina Goodsong also perform. $10 - 21+
On April 11 at the Loft, Digable Planets with Common Market.
April 16th at the Apache Cafe, it's Speakeasy #5. This time they brought C-Rayz Walz and John Robinson along with the same good stuff they had last time. Live Graffiti, Newberry Jam with Catalyst and Ty-Vicious. The freestyle cypher sounds fresh.
DOOM's new album leaked. This is the first release from DOOM since 2005's DangerDoom album. It has production from J Dilla, Jake One, and a shitload of DOOM himself. Stahhr and Raekwon each have their own track. Angelz is an updated version of "Angeles" which was realeased on some Nature Sounds mix a few years ago. "Supervillains" features Kurious, DOOM, ______someone else, who is it?_____, and Slug. Anyway the album kicks ass. Get it from Atliens Download.
King Khan and the Shrines will play the Masquerade tonight. They will have support from Golden Triangle, The Balkans, and Thomas Function. Word on the street is that Thomas Function (and maybe Khan too) will play a free show at the 529 afterwards. That is unless you're going to see KRS One at the Apache Cafe.
Speaking of free shows, Noot D' Noot will play a free show tomorrow (Wednesday the 11th) at the Highland Inn Ballroom. They say it's an early show. I say that's bullshit.
Thursday, Vegan Coke and The Crissakes at Lenny's.
